Introducing Riley

Introducing Riley, the new Peace Farm patrol dog!

After losing my Peace Farm Patrol Dog Cowboy, it took me awhile to grieve and get used to the idea of a new dog. Now, over a year later, I feel ready. I loved Cowboy’s breed: black lab and border collie, so I searched for several weeks to find a puppy similar. I found a litter of pups in Wenatchee, WA, so drove over to take a look. I fell in love with this little guy, and was lucky to meet both his parents. The dad is a chocolate/silver lab and the mom a colorful border collie. I’m not sure how Riley will turn out, but he’s starting to get some longer, curly hair so I think he may favor the border collie side of his genetics.

Why get a puppy and not a rescue dog? Because it’s important to train them at an early age to be around other animals. Riley has been around the chickens and hatchlings, horses, and will soon be around piglets! He is understanding the idea, as did his predecessor, that the Peace Farm animals must live in peace with one another.

First time meeting chicks! “Don’t bite,” I told him.
